Dr. Brett Shumway
Dr. Brett Shumway is a licensed psychologist. He holds a M.A. in Counseling and Guidance and a PhD in Counseling Psychology, both from New Mexico State University. He completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of Utah’s Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI), where he continued in a child and adolescent psychology fellowship position. Brett has worked with children, adolescents, and families in several settings, including primary care, juvenile detentions, medical and psychiatric hospitals, day treatment, residential treatment, wilderness therapy, and outpatient clinics. His experience includes working as a school district psychologist, addressing students’ social-emotional and academic needs. He has extensive training in psychological testing and evaluation and uses it to provide comprehensive and specialized testing. Although Brett works with a range of individuals, he has specialized experience with adolescents who have substance abuse concerns, medical conditions that impact mental health and well-being, individuals with learning disorders or other academic difficulties, motivation, survivors of physical, emotional, and sexual trauma, Autism Spectrum Disorder, OCD, ADHD, chronic depression and anxiety, family concerns, and Spanish-speaking and bilingual families. He also spends a lot of time on his mountain bike and hiking with his wife and 4 children.
